Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction 8-Week Course
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (or MBSR), teaches people to use their inner resources by developing mindfulness. Classes are 2.5 hours, involve discussion, mindfulness practices, and information presentation. Students wishing to benefit from the course must complete the weekly homework assignments. The course also includes a one-day retreat, typically held on a Saturday. Students are asked to bring a yoga mat to class.

When: Classes will take place 6:00 PM to 8:30PM Tuesdays each week starting on October 2, 2018
Who: The course is open to anyone with a strong interest in learning mindfulness-based stress reduction. Referral recommended.
Evaluation: Participants in the course will be asked to participate in pre, during, and post evaluation. Evaluation of the course is essential to adding to MBSR research and empirical evidence.
NOTE: There will be one week during the course where there will not be a class, extending the overall timeframe to complete the program to 9 weeks.

There are several empirically-based benficits of mindfulness including reduced pain perception and stress symptoms, improved immune function, increased empathy, emotional regulation, compassion, increased attentional focus, creativity, cognitive flexibility, and decreased rumination.
