To wrap up our Intern Introduction series, we have our Communications Intern, Gabriella Llanos. Gabriella is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is a current bachelor’s degree candidate at The University of Tennessee studying Public Administration and Political Science. Her favorite things to do in her free time are cheer on the Vols, explore the art and music scene native to Tennessee, and make the most out of her last semester at Tennessee. Let’s take a look at some of the questions we asked Gabriella!
What do you feel most passionate about?
I would say that I feel most passionate about helping people, especially kids. I think it’s extremely important for all kids regardless of race or socioeconomic status to receive adequate resources to help them succeed – mentally, socially, physically, and emotionally. It’s important to help the next generation succeed so they can do the same for their kids.
What is the most impactful book you’ve read?
The most impactful book I’ve read would have to be Untamed by Glennon Doyle. The book really dives deep into what it means to hold true to your values through adversity and to live a life that is truly and purely yours. It changed the way I look at life and how I choose to live every day.
What is your favorite part of this internship?
My favorite part about this internship is the ability to work within a community for the education and prevention of substance misuse. I am excited to learn how to best advocate for a community and to learn more about Anderson County along the way.
What made you want to work for ASAP?
I knew that working with ASAP would offer me the ability to learn more about a community and culture I know very little about, but also help to educate that community on uncomfortable subjects that are often neglected. I always knew I wanted to make a difference within the work I do and ASAP offered me the ability to educate myself and a community on topics, drug prevention and substance misuse, that need to be talked about!
We are excited to welcome Gabriella to ASAP, and cannot wait to see what she and Haley do this fall!
