As kids return to school for the fall semester, with a mixture of expectation and apprehension that every adult remembers well enough, ASAP welcomes YAC students back for another rewarding year of activities and trips! ASAP’s Youth Ambassador Coalition is kicking into high gear.
ASAP of Anderson prides itself on being a coalition-led drug prevention nonprofit. Parents, educators, and law enforcement officers and officials are all important stakeholders in our work. Just as we rely on adults and professional community members to help us focus our prevention efforts, we also recognize that community youth can play a vital role in combating substance misuse in Anderson County.
Our Youth Ambassador Coalition, led by ASAP’s own Jarod Ormsby and also affectionately referred to as YAC, gives students across Anderson County the opportunity to get involved in their own communities and participate in the ongoing struggle to prevent and reduce substance misuse.
On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, ASAP’s current Youth Ambassador Coalition kicks off its term with a 5:30 p.m. orientation at our offices for six of the most eager and dedicated students from Anderson County’s great high schools, but there is always room for one more in YAC. Activities on this year’s calendar include local service events, legislative trips to Washington D.C. and Nashville, and the TNSTRONG Youth Tobacco summit.
Any Anderson County high school students interested in becoming a member of YAC need only visit our website to join. We can’t wait to meet you!
