A lot of fantastic volunteers have given their time to support ASAP events the past couple of months. Since our last newsletter, ASAP has participated in DEA Drug TakeBack Day, the Oak Ridge Health Fair, Secret City Festival, Drug Awareness Day, and more! We are proud to say we had coalition member support at all of these events.

As the school year came to an end and summer began, ASAP had several youth-centric happenings. Prom and graduation season bring special moments and memories to our youth here in Anderson County with celebrations among friends and family. These milestone moments; however, can also be a dangerous time for students who make the poor choice to use alcohol or other drugs. ASAP and its youth Ambassadors continue to promote the I AM ONE campaign and remind parents it is illegal to provide alcohol to minors, even in their own home, and encourage students not to use any type of drugs or alcohol. Anderson County, Clinton and Oak Ridge high schools all participated in the campaign this year which included a social media contest to show safe and sober prom fun. Chick-fil-A graciously donated 1,000 free dessert cards that were handed out as students left their prom with a final reminder to say “I AM ONE” and a keychain for the future.

Oak Ridge Utility District sponsored fans that were distributed to spectators at the Oak Ridge High School graduation as another reminder to make the safest decision and not use drugs or alcohol. ASAP congratulates all the Classes of 2018 and wishes them all the best with their future endeavors.
