On May 11, 2017, students representing Anderson County, Clinton, and Oak Ridge High Schools were invited to celebrate their achievements as ASAP Ambassadors throughout the past school year. The event took place at the Oak Ridge Chick-fil-A, who has been an avid supporter of their efforts this year. The ASAP Ambassadors completed many projects and campaigns this year including the Plant a Promise campaign to prevent tobacco and e-cigarette use, Day on the Hill where they advocated for prevention to their legislators in Nashville, and It’s Quittin’ Time in Tennessee. During National Drug Facts Week this January, the Cow came out to encourage participation and promote a trivia contest held at each of the three area high schools. Teens were able to test their knowledge about alcohol and drugs and also dispel some long held myths. Participants were able to spin the Chick-fil-A wheel for free food and drinks.
Recently, Chick-fil-A again donated free food cards for every student attending prom at each of the three high schools. Along with a keychain, these cards were attached to a card with the “I AM ONE who will be safe and sober on prom night” messaging. These were given to students as they left the prom and needed to remember the message most, and with the attached free Chick-fil-A, the students really noticed! The I AM ONE campaign was developed at Anderson County High School and has been promoted by the Anderson County Underage Drinking Task Force and the ASAP Ambassadors this school year. As graduation season quickly approaches, the ASAP Ambassadors want to remind everyone to say “I AM ONE who will not provide alcohol to minors.”
In addition to celebrating these successes, ASAP presented a certificate of appreciation to Karen Tankersley, Marketing Director of Chick-fil-A for their ongoing support of these efforts.
