Happy spring, Anderson County!
The first day of spring was March, 19 and we couldn’t be more thrilled! In addition to the nicer weather and the verdant greenery (which we all love, and don’t mind the pollen at all), the ASAP staff is also excited to tell you about a number of upcoming local events where you’ll be able to come and see our smiling faces! In April alone, we were at the Mosaic Arts Festival in Clinton on the 6th, a community resource fair at the Oak Ridge Children’s Museum on the 7th, and we will be at a DEA Drug Take Back Day event, as well as both Anderson County High and Clinton High School proms, on April 27th, where we will be giving out goodies and manning photo stations for the gussied-up prom-goers. Visit our website or follow us on social media to learn more.
If you find yourself at any of these events, come by and say hello!
Oak Ridge Kiwanis Club and Dyllis Springs Elementary Book Program
One of the greatest pleasures of working at ASAP is the opportunity to engage with other groups and organizations working in Anderson County and participating in a wide variety of cooperative projects. One such organization is the Oak Ridge Kiwanis Club, to which ASAP of Anderson maintains a corporate membership, and which has been working hard for months to secure a micro-grant from the Kiwanis International Children’s Fund, as well as Altrusa, to help Dyllis Springs Elementary School purchase enough units of books from the We Both Read initiative for every student to have.
Each child will receive a set of the same developmental or educational books and will read through them with a teacher or volunteer. In fact, some ASAP staff and members of the Oak Ridge Kiwanis Club have committed to be reading volunteers when the time comes. Both ASAP of Anderson and the Oak Ridge Kiwanis Club are dedicated to the promotion of literacy and reading in Anderson County, and believe that education is a vital element to fostering a healthy mind as well as a healthy community.
That’s it from us for this month! As always, be healthy and be happy, Anderson County!
